Frequently Asked Questions
-
Counselling is usually short-term, and it can help you address a current crisis in your life or a transient issue. It is not usually deep therapeutic work and the number of sessions needed can vary between 6-18 sessions.
Psychotherapy on the other hand can help you address long-term issues related to early (relational) wounding and unresolved trauma. It is deep therapeutic work aiming at deep personality changes. It usually takes multiple years for this work to happen.

For clients not based in London or unable to travel, online therapy can be an option. There may be clients in certain countries that I may not be able to work with due to the restrictions of my professional insurance.
-
Sessions are confidential. There are, however, limits to confidentiality which will be discussed during the initial session.

I offer 3 pre-arranged holiday/missed cancellations per year as long as a 48-hour notice has been given. All other sessions are charged in full at the agreed fee (this includes sickness and unexpected circumstances). This excludes my holidays (the dates of which will be issued to you in writing at least a month before), and cancellations made by myself.

If you cannot attend in person, then you can choose to have your session online. If this is still not possible, then we can try to reschedule your session within the same week. Please bear in mind that this may not always be possible.

As a native speaker, I can offer sessions in Greek.

The first session is mostly exploratory, giving you the opportunity to expand on the reasons why you are seeking therapy at this moment in your life and what you expect to get out of it.
There will also be plenty of space for your questions and to discuss the practical aspects of working together such as the fee, frequency, cancellation policy, confidentiality etc., which will be part of the agreement for all future work.
This first meeting is also about getting a feel of what counselling is like and whether it is something you would like to commit further. I initially contract for 6 sessions before mutually agreeing to extend them further.
-
Impossible to say. For individual therapy, it depends on the nature of the issues you wish to explore, how long you have been having them, and whether they started early in your life or later one. Usually, the longer and earlier they occurred, the longer it will take to address them. I usually see clients from anything between 1 to multiple years.
Relationship/couple therapy is usually short/medium-term work although couples can decide to stay long-term too.
